Offering graduates the opportunity to develop a career in NHS Procurement through a 2-year Graduate Scheme.

Who we are

The NHS Procurement Graduate Training Scheme was established to provide an opportunity for ambitious graduates who want to develop a career within procurement and the NHS. This scheme offers an invaluable opportunity to develop essential skills, such as communication and negotiation, problem solving and critical thinking. The 2-year programme offers a foundation for a successful career in procurement.

This training initiative will allow graduates to complete various rotations, gaining experience in buying, contract management, materials management and many other areas within procurement. This full-time, paid scheme will give graduates hands-on experience, as well as completing a Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship, resulting in a Procurement Professional (CIPS-level 4) qualification.

The graduate programme will give successful applicants a unique insight into how NHS organisations work.

Some of the highlights graduates will experience on the Procurement Scheme are:

  • Band 4 salary
  • A minimum of 2 Rotations
  • Level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship, resulting in a level 4 diploma
  • Possible progression to band 5/6

The scheme aims to attract those graduates who have a drive to succeed and hope to grow their potential by making an impact in a field that is fast paced and integral to ensuring the NHS provides an exceptional service to their patients. In order to deliver this best possible care, NHS workers live by the six NHS values, and our graduates are expected to demonstrate these values and how they would apply in their everyday work.

To apply for the scheme, graduates must have achieved a 2.2 or above in any degree by September 2024. The application process runs from November 2023 – February 2024 and will require a completed application from, uploaded CV and proof of qualification. Online interviews and assessment centres will be held between January and April.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental principles in the NNHS that underline it’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare for all. In the NHS, regardless of background, ethnicity, gender or other characteristics, equality signifies the fair treatment of all patients and employees. It aims to eliminate discrimination and promote equal access to healthcare services. Diversity recognises the invaluable differences in both staff and patients, embracing a broad spectrum of perspectives and experiences. Inclusion ensures that everyone, irrespective of their identity, feels respected, valued and empowered, creating a healthcare environment that welcomes and supports all. The NHS’s dedication to these principles not only improves patient outcomes but also fosters a culture of respect and empathy among its workforce, ultimately advancing the quality of care provided throughout the system.

The NHS Procurement Graduate Training Scheme welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
