Technology Graduate (Commercial and Governance)

Three UK

What made you decide to apply to Three for a graduate role?

The variety of both opportunities and challenges that the Three graduate scheme offers is unique, and will absolutely help me to progress throughout the scheme and beyond. Also, the telecoms sector is growing at an impressive rate, with the development of 5G and IoT (Internet of things), there are many exciting opportunities to be explored.

Why did you choose this area of the business?

The technology programme is filled with opportunities to learn, network, and engage in interesting projects. I studied Mechanical Engineering at university and the programme seemed like a great fit for me to enter the technology sector.

What is a typical day like for you within your Graduate role?

My experience so far as a Graduate at Three has been full of new experiences. Each day is quite different depending on the project I am working on, or the team that I am in. At the moment, my team regularly meets for a stand-up in the morning to discuss updates or to raise any blockers. I then focus on project work for the rest of the day.

What types of projects do you get to work on?

I have worked on numerous projects across two different areas of the business – The Commercial and Governance team and CIO. I worked on a large project to understand our Partner Landscape at Three, which is crucial to understand to ensure we drive the right outcomes for our customers. I worked across domains such as IT, Networks, Procurement and Finance - which was great for my learning. I have worked on a variety of smaller projects too that included writing the business requirements for different IT releases and mapping end-to-end business processes. It’s great to be able to work on projects that support key activities of the business!

What is Three like to work for?

The culture is warm, friendly, and genuine! From my first day of working at Three, everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. Everyone is eager to get to know you, which definitely helped me settle into my role quickly as I was able to ask questions.

Outside of work, the company organises some fantastic events throughout the year, such as the Summer Party, Christmas Party, and various Family Days.

Three also has a number of employee networks, including the Women@Three Network. Since starting at Three, I've been a member of the Women at Three committee, which consists of coordinating and supporting activities such as proactively promoting gender diversity and supporting STEM outreach initiatives. These networks are fantastic to be a part of. I've really enjoyed meeting and working with other women and allies across Three.

What 3 pieces of advice would you give anyone thinking of applying?

The graduate programme is an excellent environment for anyone passionate about learning and developing their skills. If I had 3 pieces of advice it would be to:

  1. Understand the different opportunities available across the graduate schemes to ensure you apply for the right area.
  2. Reach out to existing graduates on the programme through LinkedIn to find out more about the roles you are thinking of applying to (I am happy to help)
  3. Prepare for the interviews by looking at the Three.co.uk website, but most importantly be yourself throughout the interview process.
